Graduation Ceremony 2019

The annual Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2019 was held on Saturday 22nd June. More than 700 parents, teachers, students and friends were in attendance, including the Guests-of-Honour, Mr. Lam Chiu-ying, SBS, Chairman of the Hong Kong Countryside Foundation and former Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, and Rev. John Snelgrove, Honorary Chaplain for the Board of the YMCA of Hong Kong. Mr. Peter Ho, School Supervisor, Mr. Dion Chen, Principal, members of the School Management Committee including Mrs. Sheila Chuang, Ms. Julia Ong, Mr. Ben Lam and Mr. Paul Wong, and the President of the YHKCC Alumni Association, Miss Christina Li, made up the rest of the platform party.

Mr. Dion Chen surprised all guests and graduates in the middle of his speech by inviting the whole audience to sing with him! “We all belong to the Y, We all belong to You! Y-M-C-A Hu-la-la-la” in his song expressed love and care to all graduates and reminded them that they are still part of YHKCC family even they have graduated. He also conveyed a very meaningful message about the importance of school’s five core values as they provide clear guidelines for graduates to follow as they face challenges and adversities in the future.

In his speech Mr. Lam shared about how impressed he was with the lyrics of the worship song, Oceans, and the choir’s performance, For the beauty of the Earth. The words describe the beauty and power of nature which is of primary interest and concern of him. He urged students to make changes to their lifestyles in order to conserve their earth’s limited resources and promote more sustainable development. Mr. Lam concluded by emphasizing the importance of love, faith and hope, the Christian faith, and encouraged graduates to keep these things in their hearts and minds, and apply them in their relationships and interactions with others.

A wide range of prizes including Subject Prizes, Position Prizes, Scholarships and Best All Round Student were presented by all members of the platform party. The outstanding achievements of our Form 6 graduates were publically acknowledged and celebrated during the prize presentation. The Ceremony ended with the thanksgiving hymns, “One Way” and “Amazing Grace”, led by the Worship Band. Graduates and members of the audience sang together and gave thanks to God our Saviour for all that He has done in the school. Guests and graduates shared their happiness during a pleasant and memorable afternoon.

After the Graduation Ceremony, guests went up to the fifth floor of the school to visit the newly-built Black Box Theatre. They were amazed by the hi-tech design and facilities and expressed the hope that this new learning space will support the school’s future development in the performing arts.
